The Kansas Drum Days is the largest percussion event in Kansas and one of the largest in the area, and Washburn will be hosting this year. There will be clinics and showcase concerts all day long and an evening concert featuring Grammy-nominated artists Sandbox Percussion. Clinics will be over marching percussion and Afro-Cuban drums and show case concerts will feature Washburn University, Friends University, Buhler HS, Wichita Collegiate HS, Derby HS, Shawnee Mission NW HS and more.

The evening concert will feature Sandbox Percussion performing selections from their Grammy-nominated album as well as other pieces by the group. Sandbox will be accompanied on the final number by a group of 30+ local percussion students.

Described as “exhilarating” by The New York Times, and “utterly mesmerizing” by The Guardian, GRAMMY-nominated ensemble Sandbox Percussion has established themselves as a leading proponent of this generation of contemporary percussion chamber music. Brought together by their love of chamber music and the simple joy of playing together, Sandbox Percussion captivates audiences with performances that are both visually and aurally stunning. Through compelling collaborations with composers and performers, Jonathan Allen, Victory Caccese, Ian Rosenbaum, and Terry Sweeney seek to engage a wider audience for classical music.
