Daily Meeting
12:00pm – 12:15pm EDT
Each day will start with a brief session getting us all on the same page. We’ll talk about objectives for the day and share some info about our guest presenter so people can feel prepared.
Four Corners of Sandbox Part 1
12:15pm – 1:15pm EDT
This is the first part of a four-part series where we’ll divide all the participants into four groups, and each day your group will meet with a different member of Sandbox. Each member of Sandbox will explain what it is they do within the context of Sandbox’s organization, and how those skills can be used in a variety of career types. With the smaller group-size, you’ll have greater agency for discussion and questions with the members of Sandbox.
Small Group Session #2
1:15pm – 2:30pm EDT
This is day two of these program development sessions. At this point, your group will have agreed upon a broad aesthetic arc for the program, you can continue thinking of some composers you may like to commission, and you’ll start to slot in some specific pieces into the rest of the program.
David Lang Presentation
3:30pm – 4:30pm EDT
David has written some of the most influential pieces in not only our percussion repertoire but in the entire canon of western music. We’re lucky to have him at our disposal to ask questions and hear about his refreshing perspective on music.
“Rehearsing” Kendall’s Piece virtually
5:00pm – 6:00pm EDT
Kendall Williams, one of this year’s guest composers, has written Walk, March, Run, a new work that’s uniquely suited to us for unspecified instrumentation and ensemble size. In the very first rehearsal of this piece, we will discuss some of the musical decisions that we as the performers can make, such as: instrument choices, phrasing, and pacing. Additionally, we will cover the logistics of putting together a piece remotely.
