Celebrating Our Tenth Annual Summer Seminar!

Dear friends,

This week, we’re welcoming 45 percussionists from all around the world to join us at The New School for our tenth annual Sandbox Percussion Seminar (SPS). We are thrilled to be celebrating 10 years of SPS, and to recognize this milestone we’re centering this year’s seminar around two of Andy Akiho’s works, Seven Pillars and Portal.

We are also excited to share that this year we are launching a new partnership with The Percussion Conservatory to share the seminar with an even wider audience. Thanks to the Percussion Conservatory, all masterclasses, performance classes, and concerts will be live-streamed to Percussion Conservatory members, meaning you can be a part of the seminar right from the comfort of your home. You can find more information about The Percussion Conservatory at this year’s seminar here.

We’re kicking off the seminar this Wednesday, July 16th with an opening concert at 7:00pm at the 12th Street Auditorium where we’ll perform the world premieres of our 2025 Creator Mentorship Program collaborators, Arjan Singh Dogra and Ted Babcock, as well as works by (and with!) Andy Akiho.

You can also join us on Sunday, July 22nd for our culminating concert at 1:00pm in Stiefel Hall, which will feature our seminar students in a full performance of Andy Akiho’s Seven Pillars (!!) as well as a performance of Akiho’s new work, Portal with Andy. RSVP at the link below.
