We’re coming off an exciting March with the world premiere of Quixote presented by Peak Performances at Montclair State University. Quixote is an evening-length theatrical work composed by Amy Beth Kirsten, directed by Mark DeChiazza, and performed by HOWL. See what the NY Theatre Guide had to say about the premiere here!
Things aren’t slowing down yet! This month we decided to make our Spring break into a tour throughout the southeast. Our first stop is at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. where we will perform a concert on Friday afternoon April 7th of some longtime favorites by Steve Reich, Jason Treuting, Andy Akiho, and Dave Molk. We will also meet with Dave Molk’s composition studio and workshop some new student works. Along the way we will stop by Strathmore Hall and work with some of the percussionists in the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras.
Our second stop brings us out to Nashville, Tennessee where we will visit Ji Hye Jung and her percussion studio at Vanderbilt. During our residency we will coach percussion students on various chamber music pieces, and discuss the general operations and logistics of running a chamber group. We will also perform a guest artist recital on April 10th featuring our first ever performance of Christopher Cerrone’s Goldbeater’s Skin in collaboration with mezzo-soprano, Elspeth Davis. This new work is absolutely beautiful and we can’t wait to share it with the community at Vanderbilt.
The third and final leg of our trip will take us to Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While there we will perform Christopher Cerrone’s Goldbeater’s Skin for a second time along with works by Steve Reich, Andy Akiho, and David Crowell.
Lastly, we’re coming down to the final weeks to send in applications for the second annual NYU Sandbox Percussion Seminar taking place July 30th-August 5th. We’re coming together with students from all over the world to study, rehearse, and perform some core percussion chamber pieces along with newly commissioned works by us. Also on faculty are Simon Boyar and our long-time friend, Thomas Kotcheff. The culminating concert will take place at Brooklyn’s National Sawdust. Admission is limited so get those applications in soon!
Happy Spring to all, and we hope to see you at a show soon!
