Hello everyone,
We hope that you and your family are safe and healthy. We’ve been trying to enjoy these few weeks of beautiful NYC weather, and we’re also keeping busy preparing for our next live broadcast studio concert, editing our next album, and a variety of educational projects.
This Sunday, October 18 at 7:30pm ET, Sandbox will present our next free concert broadcast live from our studio in Brooklyn. This performance will feature the music of Andy Akiho, Juri Seo, Elijah Daniel Smith, Allison Loggins-Hull, and Viet Cuong. This concert will also show off the latest arrival to our studio – our new lighting setup! These lights bring a new and exciting aesthetic to our rehearsal space, which otherwise prioritizes function over form. You can watch the concert on Sunday on our YouTube channel or Facebook page. Make yourself a snack, tell your friends, and enjoy the show!
We’ve also been spending these days editing and mixing our next album, Seven Pillars by Andy Akiho. It’s sounding great already and we can’t wait to share it with the world. We’ll head up to PS21 in Chatham, NY at the end of the month for a residency where we’ll have our final recording and mixing sessions. With any luck, the album should be mastered and available for your ears in early/mid 2021!
Lastly, Sandbox has used this time of virtual communication to collaborate and engage with more people than ever. We have begun recording rehearsals and performances for every piece submitted to our free and open call for scores earlier this year. We received almost 60 pieces so this will be an ongoing project throughout the season, and we’re cherishing this opportunity to explore more music and interact with more creators.
We’ve also partnered up with several educational institutions to share our process with their students. Over the next month or so, we will broadcast a live rehearsal and Q&A to the students of the French American International School, read and record new works by composition students at West Chester University, and spend multiple virtual sessions with the music students at Samford University in Alabama.
Thank you for reading and we hope to see you in the chat at our live-stream concert this Sunday!
Stay safe,
Ian, Jonny, Terry, and Victor
