QUARANTINE PORTFOLIO
Like so many arts organizations, the current pandemic and social-distancing measures have completely changed how Sandbox Percussion operates. Our live concerts have become virtual ones, and masterclasses take place on Zoom. Nevertheless, we have continued to accomplish our mission of elevating the scope and reach of the percussive art form.
In the last five months, Sandbox has…
-
joined with other artists and organizations in a series of virtual concerts, broadcast to thousands of audience members around the globe
-
given masterclasses to 12 universities around the USA, reaching over 250 students
-
started #sandboxsunday – a weekly discussion series on our YouTube channel where we talk with one of our collaborators about their life and their work
-
Launch a virtual concert series from our Brooklyn studio
And over the next several months, we will:
-
Perform socially distant live-streamed concerts from venues like PS21 and Caramoor
-
Continue our annual NYU Sandbox Percussion seminar – re-tooled for a virtual format and with a much lower cost for participants
-
Record our second album – Seven Pillars by Andy Akiho
-
Livestream readings of the 80 scores we received from composers all over the world in our first online call-for-score
