Quixote and March events

This month features the world premiere of Quixote, a 75-minute theatrical production composed by Amy Beth Kirsten and directed by Mark Dechiazza. About two years ago Amy Beth Kirsten asked us to be members of an extraordinary new ensemble, HOWL consisting of Sandbox Percussion and 3 female vocalists. This evening length work is based on Miguel de Cervantes’ novel, Don Quixote. Amy’s piece Quixote is less of a narrative and more a snapshot of what is going on inside the old man’s mind as he lies on his deathbed. It’s an absolute honor for us to be working on this project with such inspiring artists, and we hope that you will be able to join us for one of the four performances taking place March 23-26. The work is presented by Peak Performances at Montclair State University, and is just a short drive or train ride from Manhattan. They even provide a shuttle bus service on the weekend. On March 30th we will return to So Percussion’s popular new series Brooklyn Bound. Featured on this performance will be some recent commissions, and some original compositions by us. April 1st is the second annual National Sawdust Percussion Festival curated by Andy Akiho and our own Ian Rosenbaum. The festival is in two parts featuring an afternoon and evening program. There are some amazing artists performing so keep an eye out here for what the lineup is looking like.

The Spring is heating up and there is plenty more to come so stay tuned. We hope to see you soon!
