This past December we had the great pleasure of teaming up with HOWL on a performance of Amy Beth Kirsten’s new work, she is a myth. HOWL is an incredible new mixed ensemble co-founded by Amy and Mark DeChiazza. You can check out the video of our performance here. We are so pleased to announce that we have officially been invited to join the ranks of this world class group of musicians! Also joining will be Bang on a Can cellist, Ashley Bathgate and harpist, Maura Valenti. We have some incredible things planned with HOWL, including a world premiere this spring of a piece by Amy Beth Kirsten written for Sandbox and Eighth Blackbird flutist, Tim Munro. Pinching ourselves!

In other news, this month we’re busy premiering more new music! Thursday, March 5th at 7:30pm we’ll be performing at Yale University in Sprague Memorial Hall as part of the New Music New Haven series. We’re premiering six new pieces by Yale School of Music graduate composers. We’ve had such a great time work shopping these pieces and are so excited to put them on the stage. Eleven hours of rehearsal a day…worth it! In case you can’t attend the concert you can stream it live here.

Later in March we’ll be in residency at Cornell University where we will perform Mark Applebaum’s Straitjacket on March 26th with our good friend and Cornell faculty member Michael Compitello. We will also premiere Tonia Ko’s quartet version of Breath, Contained for amplified bubble wrap. Yes you read that correctly, you don’t want to miss these sounds! The night before on the 25th we will perform a concert of our own featuring some Sandbox favorites in Barnes Hall.
