The current pandemic and social-distancing measures have completely changed how we operate. Our live concerts became virtual ones, masterclasses take place on Zoom, our recordings are created in our apartments rather than in our studio – and our annual benefit will take place online.

We know we’re going to be in this place for a little while, and we’re making plans to continue to fulfill our mission during this new normal.
Since New York shut down in March, Sandbox Percussion has:

joined with other artists and organizations in a series of virtual concerts, broadcast to thousands of audience members around the globe

given masterclasses to 12 universities around the USA, reaching over 250 students

started #sandboxsunday – a weekly discussion series on our YouTube channel where we talk with one of our collaborators about their life and their work
And for the next several months, we will:

Launch a virtual concert series from our Brooklyn studio, featuring new commissions from composers like Andy Akiho, Christopher Cerrone, and Molly Joyce

Continue our annual NYU Sandbox Percussion seminar – re-tooled for a virtual format and with a much lower cost for participants

Livestream readings of the 80 scores we received from composers all over the world

Launch our Emerging Percussion Quartet Mentorship Program – a yearlong program where we will help guide a new ensemble artistically and logistically
